Eyeglass and Hearing Aid Recycling
The Sterling Lions Club supports the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Northern Virginia in Falls Church, VA, and the District 24-A Virginia Lions Hearing Aid Bank Foundation, Inc. We continually collect used Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids, and working but unwanted cell phones in our eyeglass recycling boxes at the locations listed.
These eyeglasses and hearing aids will be re-conditioned and used to help the needy to see or hear better. The cell phones are given to needy individuals for emergency purposes. The phone does not have to be hooked up with a valid service contract to work for this purpose.
The fine area businessmen and businesswomen listed on this page have graciously provided space free of charge to the Lions. Your patronage and support of their enterprises is greatly appreciated. If you are a business owner, and would like to assist the Lions in their recycling program, by adding your business to our list of recycling locations, please feel free to contact us at SterlingLions@verizon.net.
Because the Lions Club of Sterling Charities, Inc. is an IRS Section 501 (c)(3) Tax exempt Charity, and recognized as a non-profit corporation by the Office of Consumer Affairs of the Commonwealth of Virginia, you may be able to deduct the fair market value of your donation from your tax return. To receive a receipt for your donation, please attach your name, and address to the item being donated (a self addressed, stamped envelope would be appreciated), with your request, and we will send you a receipt via return mail when the box is serviced.
To see but one of the many accomplishments that can result through your donation of used eyeglasses, please see the following item and its accompanying link.
Partnerships with Lenscrafters
Lions Clubs International is teamed with LensCrafters and provides invaluable assistance to their Give the Gift of Sight Program. The Give the Gift of Sight Program delivers free optical services to needy peoples around the globe.
Our LEO Clubs participate in Sight Night on October 31st each year when they collect eyeglasses for recycling.
On December 2, 2008, Lenscrafters participated with the Sterling Lions Club and the Loudoun County Health Department in Hometown Days. Over 100 children received eye exams and most received glasses, too.
We wish to thank the sponsors, donors, and volunteers:

Last year on December 4, 2007, 139 children from Eastern Loudoun County received eye exams and 132 children received eyeglasses! It was a great event and provided a much needed service to children in our area.
Helping The World To See, A Community Project
Area Lions, Students from the Loudoun County Middle Schools, members of the Farmwell Station Middle School Leo Club, United Airline Pilots and volunteers joined together to form the Help The World To See Community Project. On August 18, 2000 a shipment of eyeglasses left the United States through the generosity of United Airlines. Click on the magazine cover to see pictures of some of the people who worked so hard on this project and to learn how far those recycled eyeglasses traveled. You will also see some of the less fortunate individuals that are being helped through this project. An article about the Help The World To See Community Project was contained in the December 2000-January 2001 Lion Magazine.
